IDEA: IntelliCAD-Based Architectural BIM

IDEA from 4M Solutions is a BIM application for architectural design built on top of IntelliCAD®, which is best known as the low-cost alternative to Autodesk® AutoCAD®. The development of IntelliCAD is regulated by the IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (ITC), which does not market or sell IntelliCAD itself but, instead, grants access to the source code of IntelliCAD to commercial and non-commercial members. The commercial members pay a fee to join the ITC and can develop and sell commercial versions of IntelliCAD, while non-commercial members can freely use the IntelliCAD source code for internal or academic use. All members are required to submit the fixes and improvements that they make to the product back to the consortium. Thus the development of IntelliCAD is distributed across developers from different organizations, making this joint effort truly unique in contrast to other strictly proprietary CAD software products developed by individual vendors. IntelliCAD is currently in version 6.6, with a beta of version 7.0 currently being tested by ITC members. There are a large number of commercial companies world-wide who are members of the ITC and supply and support retail versions of IntelliCAD. One of the leading ITC members is 4M Solutions, based in Greece; others include BRICSNET, Autodsys, Inc., CADian, ZwCAD, and many more. The IntelliCAD Technology Consortium Obtains Judgment Against CADopia

April 19, 2010 - Portland, Oregon, The IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (ITC) has successfully obtained a judgment against CADopia, Inc. for approximately $100,000 in past due membership fees and legal costs, plus a court injunction prohibiting CADopia from illegally using the IntelliCAD source code and Trademarks.  The IntelliCAD Technology Consortium was forced into this action due to the continued sale and promotion of CADopia software, after CADopia, Inc. was legally terminated from the ITC for nonpayment of membership fees.  CADopia's membership fees fell into arrears in 2008.

Bricsys Membership in ITC has Been Terminated

Portland, OR., USA, February 10, 2010- The IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (ITC) announced today that the Bricsys membership in the ITC has been terminated and that it has received a letter from Bricsys CEO Erik de Keyser stating that the BricscadTM 10 source code does not contain any IntelliCAD® software.  Bricsys joined the ITC in 2002 (as BricsCad NV) and Mr. de Keyser served as Vice President of the ITC in 2003 and Chairman of the Board of the ITC from 2004 to 2006.

The ITC is a technical software consortium where member companies have access to the IntelliCAD source code. When a member company leaves the ITC, the member company follows an established procedure to ensure that the intellectual property of the ITC is protected. The ITC will be taking steps to ensure that its intellectual property has not been improperly used by Bricsys. The ITC has invested over 10 years in the development of IntelliCAD, and recently announced the Beta2 release of IntelliCAD 7, a significant upgrade of the IntelliCAD base source code.
