The IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (ITC) today announced the planned retirement of ITC President David Lorenzo and the election of Shawn Lindsay as ITC President, effective February 1, 2025.

David Lorenzo began working with CAD in the early 1980s. In 1986, after partnering with KETIV Technologies, Lorenzo played a pivotal role in transforming the company into a leading Autodesk® AutoCAD® reseller in North America. As vice president of KETIV’s software development, Lorenzo spearheaded the development of ArchT, an internationally acclaimed BIM application for AutoCAD.

When Autodesk entered the AEC market and began competing with its retailers, including KETIV’s ArchT, it left many retailers without a viable platform. Lorenzo was determined to steadfastly support an alternative CAD development platform. Recognizing the ITC’s mission to establish such a platform through a member-driven, cooperative, and purpose-focused model, rather than a controlling one, Lorenzo endorsed the ITC’s efforts and joined the organization full-time in 2004.

Lorenzo began as the ITC’s development manager, later advanced to development director and, ultimately, became the ITC’s president in 2010. Vitor Neves, chair of the ITC’s board, said, “Lorenzo’s vision fostered a collaborative environment for third-party developers, enabling them to grow their businesses with confidence. Today, IntelliCAD supports developers and CAD products worldwide, used by millions in over 130 countries. This success has led to increased competition, innovation, and sustainable solutions for developers and CAD users.”

Transition Plan

When Lorenzo announced his retirement plans in 2023, he worked closely with the ITC Board of Directors to ensure a smooth transition. Neves highlighted Lorenzo’s early notice, “This allowed for a thorough presidential succession planning process and the implementation of a comprehensive transition strategy. The transition strategy balanced immediate and future needs: bringing in Jason Poitras to advance business development and marketing initiatives, while identifying Shawn Lindsay as the ideal presidential successor given his extensive organizational experience.”

Lorenzo expressed his confidence in Shawn Lindsay, who has served as the ITC’s lead attorney for over 22 years, “Shawn’s exceptional legal expertise, deep institutional knowledge of the ITC and CAD industry, strong board connections, and collaborative leadership skills uniquely position him to effectively guide the ITC. I am confident Shawn will elevate the ITC to new heights, continue the ITC’s collaborative mission, and safeguard IntelliCAD as an alternative development platform for future generations.”

Neves further emphasized Lindsay’s abilities, “Not only has Shawn effectively served as the ITC’s legal counsel for decades, he has also served as an Oregon legislator, which demonstrates his capacity to foster collaboration amongst diverse stakeholders. The unanimous election of Shawn underscores the ITC Board of Directors' confidence in his leadership as the incoming president.”

Shawn Lindsay stated, “I am honored to build upon the strong foundation Dave established at the ITC. His leadership has created a strong CAD platform and collective culture that serves as the bedrock for our members' success. Collaborating with Jason Poitras and our talented team, we will continue to advance our technology while strengthening our member relationships and market presence.”

Future Initiatives

In 2025, under its new leadership, the ITC will advance several key initiatives. The upcoming release of IntelliCAD 14 will deliver advancements in core CAD, BIM, and native DGN areas. Additionally, continued investment in LISP and IcARX APIs will expand development possibilities for members. IntelliCAD World 2025 and enhanced business development efforts led by Jason Poitras will strengthen the ITC’s market presence and member engagement. These strategic priorities reflect the ITC's unwavering commitment to providing a trusted CAD development platform that empowers members' business success.

The IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (ITC) today announced a strategic partnership with JP Works Consulting to lead ITC’s Business Development and Marketing initiatives, effective January 1, 2025. Under this partnership, Jason Poitras, founder of JP Works Consulting, will oversee these critical functions for the ITC.

Poitras brings over three decades of experience in the CAD and geospatial sectors to this role. Most recently serving as General Manager of MicroSurvey Software, a Hexagon company, Poitras has demonstrated expertise across the full spectrum of technology business operations, from hands-on technical work to executive leadership.

Through this consulting partnership, Poitras will manage business development, strategic planning, member relations, event management, and marketing initiatives. This collaboration strengthens ITC's commitment to advancing CAD technology and serving its member organizations.

Prior to establishing this partnership with the ITC, Poitras held various leadership positions at MicroSurvey Software, progressing from technical sales to Chief Operating Officer and, ultimately, General Manager. During his tenure at MicroSurvey, Poitras also served on the ITC’s board of directors and as secretary of the ITC, providing him with deep insight into the ITC's mission and operations.

"His extensive industry experience, proven leadership capabilities, and deep understanding of both technical and business aspects of CAD and geospatial technologies make him the ideal person to drive our business development and marketing initiatives forward. With a long career as a third-party developer, Jason has worked with a variety of CAD platforms, including AutoCAD, IntelliCAD, BricsCAD, Ares, and others. He has been deeply involved with IntelliCAD since 2005 and served for over nine years on the ITC Board of Directors. Jason’s unique expertise provides him with a clear perspective on the benefits IntelliCAD offers over other platforms, the value of member collaboration, and the ability to work seamlessly within a vision, team, business model, and process he already knows well."

Poitras's background includes technical surveying experience, product development leadership, technology assessment, and operations management. He holds a diploma in surveying technology from Red River College and certifications in Autodesk® AutoCAD® and Microsoft® networking.
