ODA Continues Italy Work Tour at IntelliCAD World 2019

logo_itc_01_DarkSeveral members of the Open Design Alliance (ODA) team arrived in southern Italy after ODA DevCon last week in Milan to give an update on ODA technologies, including Drawings, BimRv, and IFC SDKs, and also the ODA Technology Stack.

Sergey Vishnevetsky, ODA Director of Development, commented that it was great to see new ODA features already implemented in IntelliCAD. Also he was happy to report that they had been working on common properties functionality thanks to ITC requests. Common data access to all supported ODA formats includes access to both the model tree and properties. The model tree structure is still in-progress, but common properties are in production currently.

We also heard about ODA's strategic partnership with buildingSMART. This is exciting news for several reasons, one being that the ITC is in the process of transitioning to ODA IFC SDK for IntelliCAD's current IFC support.

ODA Releases Version 2020 of Its SDKs

IntelliCAD integrates with several ODA SDKs, including Drawings SDK, BimRv SDK, Architecture SDK, and Civil SDK.

With the 2020 versions now available, the ITC starts working with them internally and in parallel with current development, so we can release IntelliCAD based on new ODA SDKs as soon as possible. For the news from ODA:

ODA Releases New Versions of its SDKs

Open Design Alliance (ODA) recently released version 2019.2 of its entire product line including Drawings SDK, BIM SDK, Architecture SDK, and Civil SDK which are all used by IntelliCAD. It takes some time to integrate new ODA versions into IntelliCAD, but the ITC starts the process immediately in parallel with current development.

Building with More ODA Technology

IntelliCAD platform

IntelliCAD has always — since its first release twenty years ago  been based on technology that is now governed and advanced by the Open Design Alliance (ODA). In the beginning the focus was on .dwg, but over the years, both technologies have seemed to outgrow their initial aim on replicating the .dwg file format (ODA) and replicating its end-user capabilities (ITC).

This point was not necessarily highlighted in Prague, but the link between ITC and ODA technology was mentioned throughout the conference with the nonchalant transparency that is commonplace among the IntelliCAD community.

  • IntelliCAD — Uses the latest ODA libraries.
  • BIM — Attach Autodesk® Revit® files as underlays, based on the ODA BIM component
  • Mobile — Based on ODA libraries.
  • Walls, windows, doors, slabs — Draw and edit architectural entities (new in IntelliCAD 9), based on the ODA Architecture component.
  • Smart meshes — Draw and edit lightweight 3D meshes (new in IntelliCAD 9), based on the ODA Facet Modeler.
  • Custom objects — Work with custom architecture, civil, and mechanical objects, based on ODA Architecture, Civil, and Mechanical components.

The ITC employs many components of ODA technology (including ODA source code), then customizes that technology according to the needs of their members. And that's exactly what ITC members do: they employ many components of ITC technology (including ITC source code), then customize that technology according to the needs of their end-users. It's a consistent business model from start to finish.
